Oh my aching everything!

No one ever said working out was going to be easy...
But at least it can be fun!
The other night I played volleyball for...I don't know, maybe half an hour?  And the thing is, when it comes to me and sports, we don't like each other.  But I really tried this time!  I hit the ball, I moved for it, etc.
And it shows.  My arms are so bruised!  The most annoying part is, my butt is sore!  From kneeling and moving around and reaching for the ball!  But regardless, I had tons of fun at the time.  It's ridiculously warm here in Texas for being the end of January (I'm in shorts and a tee as I type this..Jealous? ^_~), so that means I have no excuse to get my butt outside.
This morning I took out my dog Roxy (half black lab half catahoula) for a run, and it about kicked. My.  Butt.
We ran from my house to the park (only about .3 miles), then ran the majority of the park, only stopping so she could smell everything, and ran about a fourth of the way from the park to my house.  Then I basically tried to get on her back and ride her home I was so tired.  But it was worth it!
All sweat and no tears,
Lissy.

The best fashion statement:

There's something everyone can do to look their best, no matter what they're wearing, no matter the body shape or size.
It's wearing clothes that fit.
It doesn't matter if you're a size 00 or a size 18; no one can read the labels on the insides of your jeans or shirts!
No one is going to look at you, size you up with their eyes and go, "Huh, they're a size 12!"
However, people can look at you and think, "Oh, their jeans don't fit."
Everyone wants to look and feel good, there's no doubt about it.
Some days I'll get dressed and just hate what I'm wearing.  I don't feel good about how I look, I don't feel comfortable.  My jeans are too tight or too loose, my shirt is too short, whatever it is, I'm uncomfortable.
The best fashion advice I can ever give you is to try on everything, and buy the size that fits.  And don't be upset about what the size is.
I'll be straight up honest with you.
I'm currently wearing a size nine pair of jeans, and they're comfortably snug.  A few months ago, I was in a size thirteen.  I'm not ashamed to say it.  I'd rather wear a size thirteen than a size 9 when I ought to wear a thirteen.    Because at least I'll be comfortable.
As a society, we need to stop squeezing into the smallest size we possibly can, and put on a shirt that fits!
No one can read the label of the clothes you're wearing.

No scales and all smiles,
Lissy

My favourite Winter Fashion Trend

Sweater-Shorts-Knee/Thigh Highs-Ankle boots.
I am absolutely in love with this look.

So cute, right?
Now pair it with a favourite warm jacket, and you're set!  It's different than the ho-hum of jeans, and a little more sexy and playful than full on tights or leggings.
Where to get this look?
I recommend Target, you can get a pair of over-the-knee socks for $5.  You might be able to find a pair of shorts you like, I'm not sure if they have them out yet; I would recommend pulling out a looser fitting pair from the summer, or check online at Charlotte Russe or Forever 21.
I got the cutest pair of ankle boots from Ross for about $12, and wet seal always has a good deal on shoes.
Next time you can't figure out what to wear, and it's not freezing outside, give this look a try!

Crowded hallways and freezing classrooms

Today was my first day of college!  Met a few interesting people, but for the most part I think it might be a pretty dull semester.  What I have learned is to bring a jacket, it's freezing!  Me and boyfriend kept having to go single file trying to get through the hallways, there were people everywhere!
I think in a few days I'll do a, "What's in my school bag" video, just for fun.
I'm so tired, I'm going to school Mondays & Wednesdays, 11 a.m-6:50 p.m.  It's only four classes, but for someone who hasn't been in school since June 2011, augh (And by then I was actually graduating, and those last months don't really count as 'school')!
It was a good day though.
Met a girl who loves makeup, like myself, she was probably the happiest person I met all day.
But, as much as I'd like to keep chitterchatting about my first day, it's nearly 1:30 a.m and I work in the morning (le sigh)...
So, off to the bathroom to scrub my face and brush my teeth!
Love, Lissy.

Berrylicious Green Smoothie

Here's another quick smoothie recipe that's full of yummy nutrients and vitamins!

1 c. mixed frozen fruit (I use walmart brand, it's $7, and has mango, peaches, strawberries and pineapple)
1/2 c. mixed frozen berries (Again, walmart brand, $3, and has blackberries, blueberries, and strawberries)
1/2 a ripe banana
1 leaf of kale ripped up off the stalk.
1 c. ice
1/4 c. milk
1 1/2 c. juice (I used apple)

It's sweet enough that no added sugar is needed!  The blackberry seeds add a bit of grit to it, but if you have a problem with the leafyness from the kale, it kind of distracts the tongue.  Regardless of the little leafy bits and blackberry seeds, my belly is happy!

Happy blending (:
Love, Lissy.

How to get your greens when you're a straight carnivore

I. Hate. Vegetables. I know, they're so awesome for you and healthy, great for your skin, mind and body blehblehbleh. I just can't do it though. I like corn and potatoes, but those are really just starches. I like carrots, but only raw. And I like ketchup, but that's not a vegetable.
I don't eat salad, I don't eat lettuce, spinache, broccoli, or squash. It's awful, and I know it. But there is hope for me and those like me!!
The green smoothie! Ta-da! I looooove smoothies. I love fruit in general, and I especially love them in smoothie form. I don't like to buy smoothies from chains though since they add tons of sugar and sweeteners (plus they cost an arm and a leg...). So to remedy this situation, I asked for a blender for Christmas! I have a smoothie probably once a day or so, and let me tell you. I'm thinner, more energetic, and I feel great. Now what does this have to do with getting your veggies in? Well. I just made my first green smoothie, and aside from the little leafy bits, it is FAMTASTIC. Here's the recipe I came up with:
1 cup pineapple
1 cup mixed frozen fruit
1 clementine or cutie
1 leaf of kale (torn off the stalk into pieces)
1 1/2 cups juice (I used apple)
1/4 cup milk
2 teaspoons of sugar
1 1/2 cups ice, add more if needed
Blendblendblend!

Kale is a super vegetable, leafy and kind of tasteless. Its chalkfull of vitamins and nutrients, but doesn't leave your smoothie tasting like grass. If you don't want to make one yourself without trying out a green smoothie first, try the green machine by naked smoothies. Happy blending!

First tattoo!

Hello Everyone!  This is a picture of my very first tattoo!  I'm so happy with it, and it barely hurt at all.  The tattoo artist was incredibly nice and I had my family and boyfriend there to support me.  I saw this tattoo design a few months ago and LOVED it, but never really thought anything of it.  Then for some reason, I saw this one yesterday and knew I had to have it.  So 24 hours later... haha.  My boyfriend was afraid I was being impulsive, but I understood that this is permanent and what I really wanted.  I absolutely love it, and couldn't be happier with it!

Lots of love and ibuprofin!  Lissy.

Just a reminder, I am eighteen, I went to a tattoo parlor, and was tattooed by a licensed tattoo artist in very sterile surroundings.  I do not recommend or endorse getting illegal tattoos, because it leaves so much room for error.

Diets & You.

  • First off, I want to put in my two cents on fad dieting/crazy calorie restrictions etc. Do not do anything that will put your well being in danger. Those 'weekend cleanses' where you only drink lemonade and hot sauce for three days, not. good. Please be smart about any and all diet choices you choose to make.
  • The secret to clear skin, more energy, a slimmer waist line, and so much more? WATER. It's good enough for the plants and animals, so it's good enough for you. Think about how much water you drink a day. Chances are, if you're anything like me, it's little to none. And the reason for that is we are constantly on the move. Invest in a reusable cup with a double liner to keep your ice in cube form, that way you'll be on the go, and still getting your water. Go slow, don't force yourself into drowning. Start by replacing one beverage a meal with water. Pretend you're at camp! They always make you drink at least one cup of water before you get the good stuff ;)
  • Happy New Years!

A new year, a new blog.  I wasn't sure if my tumblr was really being utilized to the best of my ability, so I've decided to branch out.
If you've seen me on youtube or stumbled across my website (currently under construction) superpretty.com, then Hey (:, what's up?
If this is our first encounter, let me introduce myself.
My name's Nelisa, I go by Lissy.  I'm eighteen, going to school to become an elementary school teacher.  I don't know specifically where or when it began, but I have an incredibly deep interest in health and beauty.  I enjoy finding natural solutions to clear skin, testing and reviewing products and sharing my opinion with people who are interested in trying the product themselves.
I like to share makeup tutorials along with health care tutorials, ranging from smoky eyes to oatmeal masks.  My purpose in doing all of this is simply to add on to the information already available about products and tutorials, and putting in my two cents on how I see things.
I hope some of the things I post will help you out in some way shape or form, and that we can continue this journey together!

    Love, Lissy
